Install Photo Supreme Server with PostgreSQL 18

    Installing PostgreSQL

If you're new to PostgreSQL or setting it up for the first time, this guide is here to help. It walks you through installing PostgreSQL version 18.x and getting it ready to use with Photo Supreme. The process is simple enough for both beginners and experienced users.

One important step when setting up PostgreSQL for Photo Supreme is enabling remote connections. If you're installing PostgreSQL on a different computer or server, make sure the firewall allows access through the PostgreSQL port (default is 5432) and allows connections to the pg_ctl.exe program (on Windows).

This guide assumes you've downloaded the full version of PostgreSQL. Photo Supreme has been tested with versions 12.0 to 18.1, and it should work with any 12.x, 13.x, 14.x, 15.x, 16.x, 17.x, or 18.x version. You can get PostgreSQL from its official website.

After downloading the PostgreSQL setup package, you're ready to install it. It's best to stick with the default settings during the installation. However, when you get to the step where you choose the Data Folder, select a location outside the main PostgreSQL installation folder. This makes it easier to back up your data later.

You'll also be asked to create a password for the PostgreSQL superuser. Make sure to write this password down, as you'll need it later. Additionally, take note of where you save the Data Folder, it’ll be important in the future.
