Install Photo Supreme Server with SQL Server 2022

    Introduction

Important: This manual describes installing Photo Supreme with SQL Server. SQL Server Express is free but has significant limitations. If you do not already own a full SQL Server license, we recommend using Photo Supreme with PostgreSQL instead. If you already own a license for the full version of SQL Server, follow this manual.

Photo Supreme is a Digital Asset Management (DAM) application that helps you organize image files. It catalogs available file details, including technical photo information and each file’s location on disk. You can also add tags, descriptions, and custom information. Although cataloging takes time, it enables you to retrieve images quickly using a wide range of criteria and combinations.

The SQL Server version of Photo Supreme is available for both Windows and macOS platforms and, as its name suggests, uses Microsoft SQL Server as the database system. Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database management system developed by Microsoft As a database, it is a software product whose primary function is to store and retrieve data as requested by other software applications, be it those on the same computer or those running on another computer across a network (including the internet). There are at least a dozen different editions of Microsoft SQL Server aimed at different audiences and for different workloads (ranging from small applications that store and retrieve data on the same computer, to millions of users and computers that access huge amounts of data from the Internet at the same time).

This manual describes how to install and configure the Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition. SQL Server Express Edition is a scaled-down, free edition of SQL Server, which includes the full core database engine. Its limitations can be found on the Microsoft product pages. The installation procedure for the full SQL Server version is identical.

This manual also describes how to get “Photo Supreme SQL Server” up and running with an existing instance of SQL Server.
