User Management in Photo Supreme Server

    Introduction

Photo Supreme is a Digital Asset Management (DAM) software that helps you organize and manage your image files through detailed categorization. It structures files based on various attributes, including technical metadata and their location on your disk. You can also enrich your images with tags, descriptions, and custom metadata. Although this organization may take some time initially, it provides significant long-term benefits: Photo Supreme enables you to quickly locate images using multiple search criteria and combinations.

The PostgreSQL version of Photo Supreme Server is compatible with both Windows and macOS. As the name suggests, it uses the widely adopted open-source database system PostgreSQL. This free-to-use, object-relational database management system is known for its flexibility and adherence to standards. A database server’s main role is to securely store data and retrieve it for applications, whether on the same machine or over a network, including the Internet. PostgreSQL can handle workloads ranging from small, single-machine setups to large, internet-facing applications with many simultaneous users. Recent PostgreSQL updates also include database replication, enhancing security and scalability.

In comparison, the SQL Server version of Photo Supreme Server relies on Microsoft SQL Server. This relational database management system, developed by Microsoft, requires Windows but supports connections from both Windows and macOS clients. Like PostgreSQL, SQL Server stores and retrieves data for connected applications, whether local or networked. Microsoft offers multiple editions of SQL Server to suit different needs, from small-scale local applications to large systems supporting millions of users accessing extensive data online.

This manual assumes you have already installed either PostgreSQL or SQL Server along with Photo Supreme Server, and that you can launch Photo Supreme and connect to the database successfully. It provides guidance for managing Photo Supreme in environments where multiple users need shared access to the same catalog or database.
