    Maintaining Photo Supreme

Moving the catalog files to another folder

This only applies to the Single User Edition

By default, the catalog files are saved in the designated application data folder of the operating system.

For Windows this is %localappdata%\IDimager Systems, Inc.\

For macOS that is ~/Library/IDimager Systems, Inc./

The Catalog folder is located within the data folder. If you prefer to store the catalog files in a different location, please consider the following points:

    1. Always keep the catalog files on the fastest internal drive available in your computer, ideally an SSD.
    2. Avoid storing the catalog files on a network drive. The catalog database uses SQLite, which frequently creates and deletes temporary files that can be prone to errors. Even minor interruptions in a network connection can lead to catalog corruption.
    3. IMPORTANT: Exclude the catalog folder from any antivirus software you may have installed. SQLite's constant creation of temporary files may trigger scans by these programs. When a virus scanner locks a file for scanning, SQLite must wait for it to be released, which can significantly degrade database performance. For Windows users, ensure that the catalog folder is also excluded from the built-in Windows Defender virus scanner.

To move the catalog files, follow these steps:

    1. Start Photo Supreme.
    2. In the Preferences, enable the login dialog.
    3. Close Photo Supreme.
    4. Use your operating system to move the cat.db and thumbs.db files to your preferred folder (remember to exclude this folder from any virus scanners as well!).
    5. Start Photo Supreme.
    6. In the login dialog, navigate to the new catalog location and select it.
    7. Once back in Photo Supreme, you can disable the login dialog again if desired.
