    Maintaining Photo Supreme

Upgrading to a newer PostgreSQL version

This only applies to the Server Edition using PostgreSQL as its database

To upgrade your PostgreSQL version while preserving your Photo Supreme database, follow these steps carefully:

    Before Installing the PostgreSQL Update:

    1. Close Photo Supreme: Ensure all instances of Photo Supreme are closed.
    2. Backup Your Databases: Create a backup of both the Catalog and Thumbnail databases using pgAdmin, as outlined earlier in this manual.
    3. Stop PostgreSQL Service: Shut down the existing PostgreSQL service. Refer to the PostgreSQL documentation for instructions if you're unsure how to do this.
    4. Optional: Change the PostgreSQL service to start manually to prevent it from automatically starting after a system reboot. Again, check the PostgreSQL documentation for guidance.
    5. Install New PostgreSQL Version: Follow the Photo Supreme installation instructions to install the new PostgreSQL version. Ensure that you do not use the same database folder as the old PostgreSQL database.
    6. Ensure Compatibility: Confirm that you have the Photo Supreme Server Edition installed for the corresponding version of PostgreSQL.
    7. Start Photo Supreme with Database Creation Dialog: Launch Photo Supreme while holding down the appropriate keyboard combination:
    • Windows: Ctrl + Alt + Win
    • macOS: Ctrl + Cmd + Opt
    1. Create a New Catalog: In the new PostgreSQL installation, create a new catalog. You can use the same name as the old catalog. At this point, you will have an empty catalog.
    2. Close Photo Supreme: Exit the application once the new catalog is created.
    3. Restore Your Databases: Restore the catalog and thumbnail databases as described earlier in this manual. Remember to set the restore option to Clean the database on restore.
    4. Start Photo Supreme Again: Open Photo Supreme to verify that your data has been restored successfully.

After confirming that your data is intact, you can proceed to uninstall the old PostgreSQL database and optionally delete the data folder associated with the previous version.
